In 1981 National Public Radio, in conjunction with Lucasfilm, released a 13 episode original audio-based dramatic retelling of Star Wars. As Star Wars launches to a new generation of fans, with a new series of films, The Expanded Fandomverse Network takes a look back, with a critical eye, to see how they have stood the test of time and if you really CAN do Star Wars without dazzling special effects.
Join Jason Collier (Access Hollywood's Ultimate Star Wars Fan and co-host of the Expanded Fandomverse Podcast), Scott Ryfun (Host of the My Star Wars Story Podcast and co-host of Dinner 4 Geeks Podcast), and Erin Neidigh (Author of 5,100 Question Mega-Ultimate "Star Wars" Quiz Book) for reviews of all 13 original episodes.
All episodes are readily available to listen to on YouTube and purchase on iTunes. Some sound clips from the original dramas have been sampled to better enhance the reviewers comments. The Podcasts are planned monthly, but some extra episodes with bonus contact may drop more often. Make sure to subscribe to our main feed on iTunes and Stitcher and check back on our main webpage www.theexpandedfandomverse.com for new episodes.
In this Episode, we will cover not only the 1st episode, "A Wind to Shake the Stars", but also talk a little about the history of the Radio Drama in general.
ENJOY, and make sure you let us know what you think of the podcast!
"You may think you've seen the movie; just wait 'til you hear it!"...
Hi guys...
ReplyDeleteJust started to listen to your Podcast.
Interesting story being told about Star Wars Radio Drama being released in 87/88.
To the BEST of my knowledge
...THIS product was NOT released by HighBridge Audio until 1993.
I remember THE Day I saw it in the store.
I'll even share with you MY History and Star Wars Radio DRama Story here ( on Blogger):@

I would love to have someone prove there was an earlier 88 release. NEVER Seen that.
Now- I found it fascinating that no one in this podcast mentioned that Episode One:
A Wind to Shake the Stars - is really THE Missing Reel One of A NEW HOPE - ( pretty much as it was filmed ) and that was left on the editing room floor - cause as we all know - Star Wars the film - opens w/ what was to be - reel #2. Hope you enjoy my story - and thanks for sharing.
Furthermore - I heard a mention about this series 1st airing late 1981 during NPR's fund drive.
ReplyDeleteWell - while I'll believe that they did re- broadcast this series @ that point in time -
the Original 1st broadcast of this series actually took place between March 8th - June 1st
earlier that year.
BTW- nice mention of the Biggs / Luke scene in the Original Marvel Star Wars Comic book adaption.
